Hi! My name is Katja Rabus. I am a student at the State University of New York at Buffalo pursuing a Theatre BFA in Design and Technology.
As a student learning about theatre during and "after" a pandemic, my perspective on how to create and produce it has certainly been challenged.
During the age of zoom theatre, the design aspect of theatre had little space to live, and most of the productions that I worked on in my early years at UB were masked dance productions that were edited and then streamed. Despite the frustration many of us felt, this was a great opportunity for me to be slowly introduced to the elements of production.
The trickle into live performance over the past few years has created a space for me to find my passions in such a diverse industry. While I expected to be fully obsessed with the design side, I found myself loving the paperwork and organization of the management side.
I have learned that theatre has given me two true loves: the magic of pencil and paintbrush to bring a set to life, and the wonderful world of stage and production management.
